Thursday, April 29th, 2010Not only is Yao Ming a big name in basketball (as well as in general just big!), but he also has a big heart! As part of the NBA’s “Read to Achieve” program–a year round campaign dedicated to help promote life-long reading habits in young children–Yao Ming took time out of his busy schedule to read Mandy and Pandy Play Sports to a group of elementary school students in Houston, Texas. What’s great is not only is he encouraging young people to read more, but at the same time he’s sharing and teaching Chinese language to them as well.

Chris Lin Visits OCDF
Sunday, April 25th, 2010Mandy and Pandy author, Chris Lin visited OCDF with his daughter’s beloved friend, Pandy. Together, they met the kids who were enrolled in OCDF’s program and had fun spending time with each other and chatting about China and their experiences.
OCDF, which stands for Our Chinese Daughters Foundation, Inc., is nonprofit organization committed to supporting families who have adopted children from China. They have various programs being offered all year long. These include culture and tour programs as well as orphan support programs. They even help you adopt a Chinese orphan.

Mandy and Pandy Featured in April 2010 Children’s Book Watch
Sunday, April 25th, 2010Midwest Book Review features the Mandy and Pandy series in their Children’s Book Watch for April 2010. Editor-in-Chief, James A. Cox, writes:
“Mandy and Pandy Visit the Zoo: man di he pan di can guan dong wu yuan” is a bilingual children’s book and CD that teaches Chinese. Thick cardboard pages with colorful illustrations show names of zoo animals and sentences in English and Chinese with phonetic pronunciations spelled in English underneath the Chinese characters. “Mandy and Pandy visit the Zoo” is the latest in a child’s series that teaches Chinese to English speaking children. The enclosed CD provides audio examples of Chinese pronunciation and articulation to make learning Chines even more fun. “Mandy and Pandy visit the Zoo” is a fun way to learn a new language and meet new friends. The Mandy and Pandy books are for all ages.

Sunday, April 25th, 2010The sensation Mandy and Pandy series created has cascaded to national television. In the interview, Chris Lin shares his reason for starting the series. He wanted to preserve the heritage of his adopted Chinese daughter by teaching her Chinese but there were no books that catered to his and his daughter’s needs. This led him to create his own set of instructional materials, the Mandy and Pandy series.

Busy Mommy Media’s Toy Fair Highlights

According to Busy Mommy, the Mandy and Pandy Series not only teaches a foreign language but also gives kids a thrilling adventure that they can listen to and go along with using the adorable illustrations the books provide.
Chris Lin Rocks Barnes and Noble Booksellers in Redwood City
Sunday, April 25th, 2010Barnes and Noble Booksellers in Redwood City warmly welcomed Mandy and Pandy series author Chris Lin for their event A Special Storytime last April 6, 2010. He enjoyed spending time with the kids and their parents. He shared some simple Chinese words and talked about his experience in writing the books. It must have been such a fun and learning experience for everyone there since most of the sets of book titles that were ordered for the event were sold out!
Courtney Ward, the Merchandise Manager for Barnes and Noble Booksellers, happily exclaimed, “It was our pleasure to have Chris Lin. The customers certainly enjoyed Chris as well as most of the titles I ordered for the event sold! What a great response! Again, we enjoyed having Chris at our store and he is always welcome to come back.”
Mandy and Pandy Participates in the International Toy Fair
Saturday, April 24th, 2010Mandy and Pandy enthusiastically joined the 107th International Toy Fair that was held in New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center last February 14-17. The fair proudly showcased lots of toys in different sizes, colors and designs. This exciting event was sponsored by the Toy Industry Association (TIA).
Babble, Delighted with Mandy and Pandy Series
Friday, April 23rd, 2010Babble, an online resource and community for new parents, has happily delved into the Mandy and Pandy series. They were truly delighted with the Chinese characters that are found in the book. The books and the audio CDs do not only help kids learn to speak Chinese, but also gives them the opportunity to learn how to write it.
